Please join us for a special evening to support our neighbors affected by the recent fire at 509 and 511 Amsterdam
A few weeks weeks ago, our block of Amsterdam Avenue between 84th and 85th streets suffered an unfortunate fire. Many of the residents have relocated and are facing challenging times, bringing us together as a community to support them. Our heart goes out to our neighbors. Â
We are proud to announce a month of fundraising that will culminate with an event at Maison Pickle on Wednesday 4/26, hosted by City Councilwoman Helen Rosenthal, Manhattan Chamber of Commerce Chairman Ken Biberaj and Director of the West Side Campaign Against Hunger, Chef Greg Silverman.
Helen Rosenthal represents the Upper West Side in the New York City Council. She is a leading voice on issues of affordable housing, pedestrian safety, accessibility, civic engagement, the environment and adequate funding for social service providers. Helen is a member of the Council’s Budget Negotiating Team, Co-Chair of the Women’s Caucus, and sits on the Mayor’s Gender Equity Commission. Daniel O’Donnell was elected to represent the 69th District in the New York State Assembly in 2002. During his tenure he has been the prime sponsor of several trailblazing bills, such as the Marriage Equality Act and the Dignity for All Students Act, which requires public schools in New York to combat bias-based bullying and harassment. O’Donnell served as Chair of the Corrections Committee from 2013 until 2017, and in 2017 was named Chair of the Committee on Arts, Parks, Tourism, and Sports Development. As Chairman of the Board, Ken has increased both revenue and membership and expanded the policy advocacy of the Chamber of Commerce. He lives with his wife Valerie on the Upper West Side, and they have two young boys.
Greg Silverman, a chef, entrepreneur, and longtime leader in the anti-hunger movement, was recently named Executive Director of the West Side Campaign Against Hunger, the NYC emergency food pantry, culinary training, and social service counseling center. Chef Greg’s work in the food and hunger space include serving as National Partnerships Director at Share Our Strength, owner and chef of successful restaurants in Ithaca, NY, and U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Mali.
